Boost Your Immune System

This is such a crazy chaotic time for all of us to say the least.  It’s difficult to absorb the implications of this COVID-19 Coronavirus, the immediate changes with the social distancing, isolating ourselves and our beloved seniors, school closings, restaurant closings, impact to small businesses, people without work, getting food to the elderly, the medical staff and others that are a critical component to this whole situation.  It will all be okay though! Pray (just talk to God) and then trust that the Lord is in control, that he is a God of love and that he loves us! He created us in his own image and he wants relationship with us. He created everything that is too. If you can get outside, do it! Breathe in some fresh air, look around and really see the beauty in everything that God created. Know that he is the one true living God and give him praise and thanksgiving. Ask God for his peace, his joy, his comfort. God bless you!

We have chosen to pretty much self isolate since we returned from a cruise in Hawaii a few weeks ago.  We are so thankful for that time away and that the Lord protected us during that time and travel. Upon our return, we cancelled some weekly visitations we had planned with a senior retirement group and we feel really good about those decisions. We just felt it our responsibility to ensure we did not inadvertently impact them via us being carriers with no symptoms.  We are feeling fine and are very optimistic.   I read that the best way to be responsible is to assume that you already have the virus and then do everything you can to not give it to anyone else. That really resonated with me and makes it so simple.

From an immunity perspective, we are fortunate to have an arsenal of methods to boost our immune systems and we wanted to share those with everyone in the event that you want to step up and boost your own immune system during this time.  Here are some amazing ways to do that:

Don’t Just Wash Your Hands, Also Fold Them In Prayer

Don’t just wash your hands, also fold them in prayer!

As Christians, we should be reasonable. Why? Because the Lord is at hand. Want another reason why? It’s simply because God says we can trade in our anxiety and fear for peace if we would come to Him in prayer and supplication. In any and all situations, we have the King of Kings and Lord of Lords with us and ready to guard our hearts.

Two viruses are breaking out. One is COVID-19. The other is fear. I know which one is more powerful, spreads faster and causes everlasting harm.

This isn’t a license to point at those who are generally and sincerely afraid, it’s an opportunity to pray for them. Erase your social media posts if they don’t encourage and calm. Jesus calmed the storms, He never came to make it worse. Be sensitive. Be compassionate. Be Christ-like.

Do not submit to fear. Submit to Jesus. He is with you.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” ~ 2 Timothy 1:7

Ask God to give you His Spirit today, ask Him to drive out fear and to transform you into a conduit of peace. May His Spirit flow through you as you pray for this world, our people, and our communities. Oh Spirit of God, may we only submit to the perfect love of Jesus.

Don’t just wash your hands, but also fold them in prayer.

Don’t just guard yourself against germs, but let the Father guard your heart against fear.

Don’t just protect your mouth from what goes in, but keep an attentive ear to what comes out.

Do the right things to stay safe, but do even more to stay close to Christ.

Where we live needs us now, in these moments of trouble. Shine.

This is where we can point to the Healer.
The calmer of storms.
The Waymaker.
The Savior.

Solitude and Prayer

I was reminded again today while studying in the book of Mark that Jesus was such a great role model for us to follow as he prioritized and demonstrated his essential need for solitude and time for prayer to be in communication with God the Father.   Many times this resulted in Jesus just sending the crowd and the disciples away to take the needed time to be alone with God.  Do you find it difficult to set aside the time in this busy world, raising your family, working hard every day?

Through Jesus’ examples we can see that Jesus pursued solitude and prayer when he felt his soul being pulled away from God, to draw nearer to him to be filled up!    To pull away from all the activities and people that could be distracting, even though they were important to him and he loved them. Many times Jesus did this after performing miracles and sometimes it was when he was overwhelmed or sorrowful.  Do you recognize when your soul is vulnerable? Perhaps pray that the Holy Spirit would prompt you to be able to recognize when you begin to feel this way.

Here are a couple of examples:

After Jesus performs miracles through driving out an impure spirit and healing many

  • Mark 1:35 “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”

After Jesus feeds the 5,000 and before he walks on water

  • Mark 6:45-46 “Immediately, Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.”

After the last supper in the Garden of Gethsemane when Jesus was overwhelmed with sorrow

  • Mark 14:32-34   “They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.  He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them.

One important point to consider here, before we move on, is that Jesus did not sit and “meditate” in mindfulness to empty himself out but rather to be in communication with God the Father and to be filled up by the Holy Spirit!  I love the thought of quiet rest and intentional deep-breathing for the benefits of health and relaxation but we cannot confuse those activities with praying and communication with God, the creator of the universe and everything in it and everything that ever was or is to come!

Meditation
Kneeling in Prayer

When we are feeling that our souls are vulnerable, feeling fearful, anxious, experienced a tragedy or even a victory, through following Jesus’ example we should be seeking solitude and prayer.  If Jesus needed it, why wouldn’t we need to set ourselves apart for prayer and solitude to be filled up by the Holy Spirit with direction, purpose, and meaning?   To allow ourselves time away from the busy lives to listen, to hear from God, and to just talk to him.  To tell God our struggles, our fears, our needs, our gratitude, and our awe and reverence!  Solitude and prayer with God will keep us on our faith journey!

I love to find time to explore the scriptures too, because that is one of the most powerful ways to hear from God.  I always ask that the Holy Spirit illuminate the scriptures to me and enlighten me to the Word.  Our individual walk and our journey of sanctification is very specific and unique. We can trust that the Holy Spirit will show us what we specifically need to hear at the exact moment. That specific understanding or revelation in our life.  Spending time in the Living Word of God is so powerful!  We are at our best in the presence of Jesus!

As I mentioned, the Word is so powerful, that it is important to me to use a lot of scripture in any article that I write.  I do this so that the Living Word of God can penetrate through to the hearts, mind, soul, and spirit of all that read it through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Here are some of my favorite scriptures about its power and purpose:

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”  (I love to think of this as 2-way communication.  I read the word and the Holy Spirit enlightens me.  God then knows my thoughts and my attitudes)!

2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Jesus Is tested in the Wilderness (and every time Jesus responded with “It is written”)!  Doesn’t that just encourage us to get in the word so we can repeat it back when we need it!  In our thoughts and out loud too!

Matthew 4:1-10 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”

Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” 10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”

I hope and pray that you find time to follow the example of Jesus and get filled up by the Holy Spirit too.  When you are going through rough waters, when you are anxious, weak, sorrowful, and yes even victorious, that you would trust the one that has authority over all things!

What would Jesus do?

Jesus was perfectly obedient to God. So how can we grow in our Christ-likeness and obedience to God? Well, let me tell you what I have learned and experienced first hand.

I initially did not understand this process until just a few years ago. That’s kind of sad as I have considered myself a follower of Christ Jesus for most of my life, a born again Christian, in communication with God and confident of my salvation and eternal life with God in heaven. But WOW!! Now that the Holy Spirit has given me his wisdom through The Word of God (The Bible) I have made significant progress. This has not been through my strength, power, or determination, but by the gift of the Holy Spirit! (I still have quite a way to go)!

Let’s cover Justification first here, and then move on to Sanctification, which means to be more like Jesus and be in obedience to God. Don’t get hung up on the big words, I’ll break it down for you.

JUSTIFICATION

When we confess our sins and trust in Jesus’ redemptive death and resurrection on the cross, we are then reconciled to God. Our sins have been forgiven and we have direct communication with God! At that exact point in time, we are justified once and forever even though we still sin. This is not just a “head” knowledge trust or acknowledgement of Jesus, it involves a heart change…. for even demons know Jesus exists!!! Don’t over think this though. If you believe, just ask God to expand that into a heart change so you can feel it and know it first hand.

  • Apart from Jesus, all people:
    •  Are guilty of sin, slaves to sin, under the power of sin, and live only to please themselves.
  • When we believe in Jesus:
    • God justifies us-once and forever… even though we still sin.
    • Jesus’ righteousness has become ours.

And just in case you are wondering, we have all sinned! We were born into sin! So don’t let anyone tell you that they have not sinned.

Romans 5:12 “Sin came into the world through one man, and his sin brought death with it. As a result, death has spread to the whole human race because everyone has sinned.”
‭‭

Sometimes people categorize sin as only being the cardinal sins. But it is not just cardinal sins that have separated us from having a direct relationship with God the Father. It is all sins. Cardinal, Mortal, and Venial. Selfishness, anger, resentment, bitterness, lust, gossip, fear, anxiety, depression, etc. All sins! I have a friend that explains sin as “All the stupid things we do”!

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus”.

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”.

Don’t let people tell you or convince you that your sins are too bad to be forgiven or if “ you only knew what I have done”. No! You can read right here in the scriptures that all can be put right with God through Jesus Christ!

1 Corinthians 6:9-12 “Surely you know that the wicked will not possess God’s Kingdom. Do not fool yourselves; people who are immoral or who worship idols or are adulterers or homosexual perverts or who steal or are greedy or are drunkards or who slander others or are thieves — none of these will possess God’s Kingdom. Some of you were like that. But you have been purified from sin; you have been dedicated to God; you have been put right with God by the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

‭‭‬ ‭The Justification of righteousness is immediate (God saves you and you will have a future with him in heaven)!!!   This is the Good News!!!

Once we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we also receive the promised gift of the Holy Spirit who gives us his power and the desire in our hearts to trust and become more like Jesus.

Ephesians 1:13 “And now you have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Jesus Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago”.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person.  The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

I like to think of this as getting a 2 for 1! When we receive the gift of forgiveness through Jesus’ death on the cross, then we get the gift within a gift. The bonus gift of the Holy Spirit. Isn’t God so good!

SANCTIFICATION

Now from the moment that you receive the “bonus” gift of the Holy Spirit, the process of sanctification begins and is a daily and on-going process. You can choose not to participate or acknowledge the whispers of the Holy Spirit, the nudges, the pull of your heart to want to be more like Jesus, (which many Christians do)! It doesn’t mean that you have “lost your salvation”! Or you can choose to be an active participant.

Initially, I didn’t realize that I had received the gift of the Holy Spirit in the first place. I didn’t realize what I was missing! A wonderful gift of a teacher, comforter, counselor, guide, That God planned salvation, Jesus accomplished it, and the Holy Spirit helps us apply and live it here in this earth!! God has provisioned us with all that we need to accomplish this process of sanctification. It is something that we cannot achieve on our own. We need the Holy Spirit! And it all starts with trust! Trust that the Lord is all powerful and that he keeps his promises!

Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ”

  • Sanctification is the process:
    • of growing in Christ-likeness and
    • obedience to God.
  • Sanctification is a Holy Spirit empowered break with the love of… power of… and practice of sin.
  • Sanctification gives us the power and growing desire to choose righteousness over sin.
  • Because of the cross of Jesus and through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, believers are sanctified.

What does this look like?

  • When I believe, I am confident God’s sanctification process will be finalized, or brought to completion, even when I fail.
  • When I do not believe, I feel vulnerable, defeated, ashamed, burdened and trapped by my continual, daily fight with sin.

Remember: the Holy Spirit empowers us to live in ways consistent with our righteous verdict and status:

  • What sin do you think is too hard for God to break in your life?
  • What keeps you from doing what God says and empowers you to do?

Remember: Sanctification is an ongoing process in the believer’s life:

  • The struggle is real; there are no short cuts to sanctification.
  • Where are you trusting instead of trying when it comes to sin?
  • Sanctification is a matter of trusting AND trying.

Be encouraged! We are to enjoy the peace of God knowing we have been made right with Him. Our daily struggle with sin… reminds us that He is not finished with us yet. He is changing us into the likeness of His son, Jesus.

Additional Notes:

  1. We are all human and sinners and regardless of how hard we try not to sin, not to be full of fear and anxiety, depression, etc. we are not capable on our own.
  2. The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness and knows what we ought to pray for and intercedes himself in accordance with Gods will. (Romans 8:26-27).
  3. The Holy Spirit helps us to apply the free gift of salvation in our lives each day.

Here are some ways to begin to experience the benefits of being a Christian engaged with the Holy Spirit in a way that you may not yet have experienced.  If this is you today, then get ready to experience God in a new and more indepth relationship!

  • After acknowledging Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and asking for forgiveness of your sins, specifically ask God to receive the Holy Spirit and God will give the Holy Spirit to you as it is written. Luke 11:11-13
  • Jesus is preparing to leave and ascend to heaven and promises the Holy Spirit. John 14: 16-28
  • The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, WHOM my Father will send in my name. John 14:26
  • Jesus opened the disciples understanding of the bible and the Holy Spirit clothed them in Power. Luke 24:45-49
  • Feed the Holy Spirit by Reading the Scriptures (Isaiah 55:11 as the scriptures will never come back empty but will accomplish what God has intended)
  • The Holy Spirit will do the rest! (Philippians 1:6) God will complete the good work in you that he started when you heard and believed the Gospel)!
  • God can do more than all we ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20, 21)
  • Eye has not seen nor ear heard…which God hath prepared for them that love him (1 Corinthians 2:9)

Additional Scriptures:  (I will add in the scriptures and a few more attributes of the Holy Spirit as time allows).

  • Acts 1:8 – You will receive Power from the Holy Spirit
  • 1 Peter 1:5 – You will receive Protection
  • 1 Peter 5:7 – Cast your anxiety and fears on him
  • Romans 8: 5-15 References Life and walking in the Spirit
  • Ephesians 4; What your focus should be walking with the Holy Spirit
  • Acts 20: 22-23 Paul is drawn by the irresistible Holy Spirit and is in ongoing conversation
  • Acts 8:26-29 The Spirit TOLD Philip (the Spirit speaks and he can speak to you)!

During this time of lent, I would encourage you to dig into these scriptures and pray. Ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten you to God’s truths! God bless you on your life’s journey of sanctification!

What do people really believe about Jesus, Heaven, Earth, and Hell?

How many of my friends have heard about or listen to any of the materials from TheBibleProject.com?

There are overviews of each book of the Bible plus information about Jesus and specific topics of interests. If the Bible seems confusing or difficult to follow, it helps to get the high level overview maps and explanations from this great resource!!

This particular video is about what many people believe Christians believe about Jesus, Heaven, Earth, and Hell vs. what the Bible says about who Jesus is and Heaven, Earth, and Hell.

And ultimately, those that refuse the truth of Jesus and acknowledge God, (meaning that he is irrelevant to them even when all should know him just through the beauty and miracle of creation) they will be given the human dignity of choice as they have chosen all along, and ultimately will be separated from God in hell for eternity!

I’m so thankful for the Bible Project so that many more people can have the opportunity to hear and decide for themselves!

Sometimes I would really like to clearify my own convictions based on my experience and my understanding of the “Good News” of the gospel with some of my loved ones, my friends, and my neighbors. There is not always the right opportunity and so I share this here. In the event that someone out in this cyber world is searching and has not yet heard the Good News !!!

God placed eternity in our hearts and each of us will continue to search to fulfill that until we know Jesus our Lord and Savior! Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you would like more information to get started!

Why Do We Pray?

We pray to communicate with God, it’s that simple!

Prayer is simply just talking to God. You can talk to him as you would a friend by sharing how you are feeling, what concerns you, what makes you happy, your thankfulness for his blessings, and to ask for forgiveness of your sins (all of them..like being short tempered, not using your time wisely, not being kind, etc.)

We are all human and are not perfect and we all sin every single day! We talk to God about those things that we’ve done, or things we should have done but didn’t. Those things that we are not proud of. Many of these things are sin – otherwise we probably would not be feeling this way about them. Many times they are just the “stupid things” we do! But the bottom line is that they are sin! So we ask for forgiveness of our sins. And when we do this, God forgives us!

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

God desires a relationship with each and every one of us. You can initiate this through prayer every single day and every single minute of every day. God is always ready to hear from you. You don’t need to make an appointment, schedule a conference call, or send him a text!

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

God loves it when we are in constant communication with him. In our lives we get busy and we get in the habit of forgetting to talk to God. So we need to find methods to focus and modify our behavior. Many people do this through fasting. They sit aside time to draw nearer to God. And we know that the Bible tells us that he will draw nearer to us when we do this.

James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

And as we enter into Spring and the upcoming Easter Holiday, many of us will spend some time, in our own traditional way, recognizing the birth, death, and resurrention of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. This is a great time to set aside extra time to think and evaluate what we want to say to God, what we are struggling with, what we are thankful for, what we want to talk to him about.

It also is a great time to spend more focus on the scriptures because reading scriptures is one of the most important ways to hear what God has to say to you. As we read the Bible and we remember to ask the Holy Spirit for enlightenment and understanding that He would actually grow our faith through enhanced learning. And I pray that the Holy Spirit will enlighten my heart and my mind to the truth in the scriptures.

2 Timothy 3:16All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work”.

Hebrews 4:12-13: “For the word of God is alive and active, Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Nothing in creation is hidden from God’s sight.  Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account”.

Sometimes I even write down my thoughts with the date along side (journaling to a degree) as I ponder the direction I want to progress towards It is a journey.

Using this method of prayer, reading of scripture, and journaling is a very effective way to be in communication with God. It’s a bi-directional relationship God <—> Me, exactly how God intended it to be!

Here are some additional scriptures regarding prayer:

Matthew 6:5-15 “When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites! They love to stand up and pray in the houses of worship and on the street corners, so that everyone will see them. I assure you, they have already been paid in full. But when you pray, go to your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what you do in private, will reward you. “When you pray, do not use a lot of meaningless words, as the pagans do, who think that their gods will hear them because their prayers are long. Do not be like them. Your Father already knows what you need before you ask him. This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven: May your holy name be honoured; may your Kingdom come; may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need. Forgive us the wrongs we have done, as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us. Do not bring us to hard testing, but keep us safe from the Evil One.’ “If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done.”

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

1 Chronicles 16:11 Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!

Remember, Jesus always sought to be alone to spend some time communiating with God the Father!

Hebrews 5:7 In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.

Sugar and Cancer!

Sugar aggressively feeds cancer cells, present in all of our bodies. A strong immune system and healthy diet eliminates them! We have choices everyday! We have power!!

“Dr. Lewis Cantley explains in an interview that he hasn’t eaten sugar in decades. “I have a very simple rule,” he says. “I eat fruit, but I don’t eat anything that has sugar added to it. And I guarantee everybody would be better off if they ate zero sugar.”

Now I know that every cell in our body including our brains need sugar, so I make sure I get just enough natural sources of carbohydrates that come from fruits and vegetables … and also come with the antioxidants to fight cancer!

Everyday choices add up. Make one new healthy choice each day and you will soon be able to look back and see the significant milestones you have achieved on your healthful journey!!

You Are Loved!

Holidays or days with a “Title” can be difficult for some. Like Valentines Day which highlights if we are single and causes us to focus on how it feels to be alone. It points out even if we have our person or are married whether or not we received any special validation, any special kindness, or even any acknowledgement on this day.

It’s just marketing you know! Just a way to encourage people to spend some money. That’s my opinion. We should be loving on each other every single day of the year!

You can embrace it and enjoy focusing on your person or even yourself through self-care and self love. But really In the end, It’s just a day that brings emotions and we can see many buying cards, flowers, candy 🤮and you might not get anything.

Also, we maybe watching others post amazing pictures and happy moment on social media. Just set intentions to guard your heart and purpose this a good day. You are loved!

GOD LOVES YOU!

1 John 4:19
“We love him, because he first loved us.”

1 John 4:7-8. Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Have an amazing day my friends !
