Don’t overthink it; just believe!

Easter is here!  For me it is always a time to remember the crucifixion and death of Christ; the time when God sent his Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins.  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

This is also a time that makes me ponder on why is it so difficult for mankind to believe this simple truth?  That is: if we believe then we can have a way to be with Him forever.  But it seems so many just don’t seem to believe it.  Is it that they don’t believe it can be that simple?  Is it because they don’t believe He would do that for us?  Is it because they don’t think they need that?  Is it because they don’t believe in God at all?  Why overthink it!  Then again, I am reminded this is not the first time mankind has had a hard time believing the simple truth.

Albeit on a smaller scale here’s an account when mankind was making their way out of Egypt to the Promised Land:  5They spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the desert?  There is no bread!  There is no water!  And we detest this miserable food!”  6Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died.  7The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.  “So Moses prayed for the people.  8The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.”  9So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, he lived.  Numbers 21:5-9

Do you see the parallel?  Do you see how simple God made it for them to simply believe there was a way?  Oh, but how natural it is for mankind to analyze it because it seemed ‘too’ easy.  I imagine people saying “What?  That isn’t going to save me!” or “Never heard of such an idea!” or “I’ll figure it out myself!”  There went mankind again thinking like a man and analyzing, overthinking God’s plan and making the wrong choice!  So sad.  So many died in the desert.

Let’s not make that mistake now.  God gave us a gracious gift of salvation, one that we cannot earn but rather can have by faith:  8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–9not by works, so that no one can boast.  Ephesians 2:8-9

On this Easter don’t overthink it; just believe God’s promise for your life.
