There is something exciting, something romantic, about vacationing in Italy. If you tell someone you are headed to Italy for vacation, you usually get a very enthusiastic response. “Oh, I love Italy!”, “Can I come along?” It is a desirable destination for vacation. For us it is usually a vacation to a wine region of Italy. After all, the wine regions are beautiful, and where there’s good wine, there’s good food.
One of the world renowned wine region of Italy is Barolo and a couple of favorite places we have stayed at within that region are the municipality of La Morra and the smaller Castiglione Falletto. These are small places, around 2,700 and 700 inhabitants respectively. They are exactly the places you think about when dreaming of a vacation in the Italian countryside. A very different vacation from visiting Rome (Although a very wonderful vacation of its own). Arriving to such destinations is always so exciting and rewarding.
Driving toward La Morra, for example, unfolds a typical village scene above a hilltop.
On our stay in Castiglione Falletto, once settled in our accommodation, we set out to enjoy a glass of wine overlooking the hillside from a local restaurant. Amazing views!
For us a vacation is being in a location where we can truly disconnect and be able to relax, take a breather, and enjoy the local culture. It warms the heart!
